Mirror, mirror on the wall, which disposal is the most American of them all?

Well our apparently ancient Kenmore garbage disposal finally gave up the ghost. I don't really know how old it is or was because it came with the house. My first thought is that I would just get any old disposal and throw it any there. But while searching the home improvement app I found a brand that designs and makes all of their disposals in America. I had hoped but did not assume as much. But wait there's more. All of InSinkErators disposals, not just the fancy top of the line models, are made in the US. Racine, Wisconsin to be more specific. Pretty cool. So now my task was to figure out what features I needed. My old model was 1/2 hp but it did get jammed on a semi-regular basis. So do they have a 3/4 hp model made in the US? Check. Auto-reverse jam prevention? Check. Grinds chicken bones? Check. I'd also like something a little quieter than the old one. Check. Good for septic fields? Check. What's not to love? I opted for 3/4 hp Evolution SpaceSaver XP. It's pretty cool and looks more like a cryogenic freezing pod for dinosaur eggs than a disposal. Just sayin'. Apparently my model is only available at specific stores so this is the closest model I could find on their website. And here's a fancy comparison chart. Oh and it has a 10 year limited warranty.

The inside is still shiny so I can actually see down my drain. Also when it runs it barely makes any noise. They call it "able to have a conversation while the disposal is running" technology.

Here's how it looks under the sink. Installation was pretty easy and now I don't have standing water under my sink. Bonus!

Bear-proof, airtight, submarine approved, dog food container

I'm a bit overdue in writing this one but better late than never, right? Well our family got a dog, dogs need food, and food needs to be stored in container (it's the law!). Ergo our family needs a pet food container. I also found out that bags of dog food are really big and heavy. Like carrying around a dead body big and heavy. Therefore we needed a bigggg, pet food container but not so big that it doesn't fit in our mud room. Ideally the container should also be airtight-ish and bear-proof. After a quick web search I ended-up choosing the Gamma2 Vittles Vault. I'm assuming a vittle is equivalent to a kibble, both of which are things that I don't want to eat. Anyhow to make the container airtight they have to have a spinning latch door, so every time I open it I imagine that I'm in a submarine. Bonus! Office Chair Mat

Well it only took me a year and half of working at home to buy a chair mat. Yes that's right, I've been rolling around on my wood floors without protection. When I realized that I was smashing some crayon like material into the wood floor, that's when I decided that I needed to take action. So I did a web search (trying not to mention the Kleenex of search engines) for best office glass chair mats. Why glass you ask? I wanted glass because we had a plastic one before and it cracked which ruined the rolling experience. Anyhow I came across a list of 5 or 10 floor mats. They seemed to all have the same specs and price: can withstand 1000 lbs without breaking, flat, glassy, and about $200. Well I figured that if I have to shell out 200 large for a floor mat I might as well get one made in the good ole US and A. Luckily Vitrazza was on the list. They are located in Bolder ...

Pre Post: Mythic Quest for Cookware

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm starting on a quest for new cookware. I'd like something that doesn't contain PFAS and is made in America. I've checked out the usual sites like Bed, Bath, Bodyworks and Beyond and Williams Sonoma but they don't contain a Made in USA filter to speed my search. I will update the post when I find out more. This site might be useful.
